K1.6 million will improve accommodation for staff at the Kasangare Junior High School in the Waria Local Level Government (LLG) area of Morobe’s Wau Waria district, reinforcing the support for education development and the implementation of Papua New Guinea’s 1-6-6 education structure, under the leadership of Wau Waria MP and Destiny Party Leader, Hon. Marsh Narewec.
The investment will fund the purchase and installation of eight (8) fully furnished staff houses for teachers at the school, addressing one of the district’s key challenges in attracting and retaining qualified educators into its remote areas.
The total of K1, 609, 330.80 payment was officially presented to PNG Forest Products Ltd (PNGFPL) by the District’s Education Manager, Sesinu Samandingki on behalf of the DDA on Wednesday, May 27, at the district headquarters in Wau Town.
According to the PNGFPL Commercial Manager David Cusick and Design Office Manager Auka Kema, each housing unit costs approximately K200,000 and includes complete furniture, kitchen joinery, a septic system, water tank and water pumps.
Kema said one elevated three-bedroom house will be dispatched to Kasangare Junior High School by July, while the remaining seven low-set houses are expected to be ready by August.
“Installation of the kit homes is scheduled to begin in August and is expected to be completed by the end of the year or in the first quarter of next year,” he said.
Witnessing this presentation on behalf of the Kasangare community is Daniel Yang, a community representative who thanked Hon Narewec and said, this is great news for the people of Kasangare and not only the teachers.
The construction of the staff houses is expected to significantly improve living conditions for teachers and create a more conducive environment for teaching and learning. The initiative is also aimed at strengthening the district’s education system by ensuring that teachers are adequately accommodated and supported.
Hon. Narewec’s commitment to improving education infrastructure was further demonstrated through a partnership agreement reached with PNGFPL last year. The agreement established a framework for collaboration not only on housing projects but also on other major development initiatives planned for the district in the future.
During the presentation of the bank deposit receipt, both Cusick and Kema reaffirmed PNGFPL’s commitment to supporting future development programs undertaken by the Wau-Waria DDA.
The latest housing project builds on an existing partnership between PNGFPL and the Wau Waria DDA, which has previously delivered infrastructure developments at Wau Junior High School.
District leaders believe the investment will provide long-term benefits for students, teachers, and surrounding communities, while demonstrating the DDA’s continued focus on strengthening education services across Wau Waria.
