Two primary schools in the Wau Rural local level government in Wau Waria, Morobe will benefit from a fencing project worth K100, 000 after a contract was signed on April 29 in Lae.
The signing of the contract was between TMN Foundation Inc president Polum So’on and Australian Consul General in Lae Brenton Kanowski on April 29, 2026.

The two schools that will benefit from this contract are Namie and Riverside primary schools, while Pinetop primary school has had its fencing completed recently.
According to the member for Wau Waria, Hon Marsh Narewec, the funding for the two fencing project for two different schools were provided for by the Direct Aid Program (DAP).
Wau Waria District Development Authority (DDA), as part of its contribution towards this project will assist with logistics while the local communities of those two schools will provide free labor during the construction of the fencing for those two schools.
“This is a community based project that all members of the communities surrounding those two schools will benefit from, in terms of security for their children while in school,” Narewec said.
He said this government institutions need to be looked after well, as it provides the very basic need for our children to be better educated.
“Teachers and their families as well as school children need to be given a safe environment, where teaching and learning should not be disturbed at any one time. The fencing of those schools will also ensure that those trying to disturb teachers and children do not have access,” the MP said.
Currently, Namie primary school has nearly 200 students while Riverside has nearly 170 students. Without the fencing, the school will be exposed to vandalism and intimidations from locals or outsiders disturbing the teaching and learning processes, further exposing female teachers and students to greater risks.
Hon Narewec added that the DDA will continue to partner with other development partners, to ensure developments in basic services are delivered where it is due.
Hon Narewec thanked the DAP under the Australian government as well as TMN Foundation Inc for their partnership with the Wau Waria DDA in this project.
“This will help make a real difference for our schools,” he said.
